Flying to Iran

The national airline is Iran Air (www.iranair.com). If travelling from the UK, you can fly to Tehran with Lufthansa (www.lufthansa.com) via Frankfurt or Turkish Airlines (www.turkishairlines.com) via Istanbul. British Airways (www.ba.com) begins direct flights from the UK to Tehran in July 2016.

From London – 8 hours (including stopover); New York – 16 hours 30 minutes (including stopover).

Travel by rail

RAJA Passenger Trains (www.raja.ir) operates passenger services from Tehran to Ankara in conjunction with Turkish Railways. Note: As of August 2015, this service has been suspended.

Getting to Iran by boat

The main port was Khorramshahr until its destruction during the war with Iraq. Following reconstruction, the port was reopened to ship traffic in 1992. Imam Khomeini is located in the northwestern edge of the Persian Gulf and near Iraq. The ports of Abbas and Bushehr are to be found in the Persian Gulf and Nowshahr and Anzelli on the Caspian Sea.
